In the Department of Nursing today are implemented, in collaboration with the Department of Medicine of the University of Thessaly, two self-funded Postgraduate Programs:
Interdepartmental Programme of Postgraduate Studies in Primary Health Care
The purpose of I.P.P.S. Primary Health Care is the preparation of graduates to pursue a career in P.H.C. structures of the health system, having a high level of training.
Graduates will be able to take up positions in order to improve the quality of health care. Academic preparation will enable them to deal with situations involving individuals, families, groups, or communities. During their studies, postgraduate students' knowledge, skills and abilities will be developed and improved to be applied in the work environment, in teaching, research and academic writing.
The I.P.P.S. aimed at the delimitation and restoration of essential concepts and principles of Ethics and Deontology that govern the whole spectrum of Health Sciences, including all Life Sciences in general. The I.P.P.S., "Ethics and Deontology in Biomedical Sciences", aims to cultivate and promote academic and applied teaching and high-level training of researchers and health professionals in legal ethics and deontology issues that arise in everyday life. Familiarizing students with the ethical and legal principles and issues related to the practice of Medicine and Health Sciences, as well as Life Sciences, will help shield them in the exercise of their professional duties to avoid future mistakes capable of threatening their professional status and dignity. Understanding that we live in a society with conflicting beliefs, where critical inquiry and ethical documentation are necessary prerequisites for decision-making, is an integral part of everyday practice and modern research in Medicine and Life Sciences. Finally, the I.P.P.S. aims to approach ethical issues in the biomedical sciences from a philosophical and theological point of view to highlight the anthropocentric role that the practice of biomedical sciences should have.
