The European Erasmus+ Project Help to Opportunities – H2O, in which the University of Thessaly participated as a partner, received a European Award for Innovative Teaching in the Adult Education category.
The Help to Opportunities – H2O project was implemented between 01 November 2021 and 30 April 2024 and its main objective was to strengthen the health literacy of Roma communities in Europe through inclusive and community education. The project team of the University of Thessaly, with Professor Ioanna V. Papathanasiou , Chair of the Department of Nursing, as scientific leader, developed and implemented the pilot health literacy training program in which 40 Roma mediators and 158 Roma community members from all over Europe participated.
The team included: Maria Malliarou, Areti Tsaloglidou, Evangelos Fradelos, Theodosios Paralikas, Konstantinos Koukourikos, Ioannis Moysoglou, Elias Valiakos, Dimitrios Mantzaris, Stella Zetta, Vissarion Bakalis, Theodora - Paisia Apostolidis, Maria Kriki, Irini Vafopoulou, Fotini Provida, Eleni Zioga, Andriani - Maria Mitropoulou, Vasilios Tzenetidis.
The H2O project promoted inclusion by engaging people with fewer opportunities and had 750 final beneficiaries, including educators, NGO representatives and policy makers. Its key outputs, a multilingual curriculum, a mobile app, a health board game and EU-level policy recommendations, ensure the long-term impact and transferability of the project across Europe, with the ultimate goal of sustainable, innovative and transferable solutions that address health inequalities and can be replicated.
