The Sylvia Ioannou Charitable Foundation was established in 2009, based on Sylvia Ioannou’s personal collection of books and maps. The Foundation’s purpose is to preserve and disseminate the historical and cultural – printed and handwritten – heritage of Cyprus, through research programs with academic institutions and organizations, scientific publications, international conferences, and scholarships for postgraduate and doctoral studies with the island of Cyprus as its thematic axis.

The Collection of the Sylvia Ioannou Public Benefit Foundation continues to grow and now contains more than 2,500 rare books and manuscripts from the 15th-20th centuries, focused on Cyprus and the Eastern Mediterranean, as well as over 1,000 rare maps, also of Cyprus and the wider region. The Collection is aimed at scholars, students and researchers, offering access to original travel and historical documents, travel reports and essays, maps, atlases, island books, cosmographies and manuscripts.
